The Islamic Republic of Mauritania has condemned in the strongest terms the statement by the Israeli occupation authorities recognizing the secession of the "Somaliland" region from the Federal Republic of Somalia, a sister country.
Mauritania affirmed its absolute rejection of the statement issued on December 26, 2025, considering it contrary to the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, and all international norms.
This was expressed in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, a copy of which was received by the Mauritanian News Agency.
The statement specifies that this declaration constitutes a serious violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and also represents a direct threat to regional and international security and peace, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region.
The statement affirmed Mauritania's support for the joint declarations issued by the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the African Union in this regard, which converge on supporting the unity of Somalia and its sovereignty over its entire territory, and rejecting any external interference or attempt to impose an illegal reality on the ground.
Mauritania reiterated its firm position and support for the unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, as well as its full support for its legitimate government in all the political and legal measures it takes to preserve the unity, security, and stability of its territory.
