Foreign Minister Holds Talks With German Counterpart

On July 20 in Nouakchott, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, held bilateral talks with Dr. Johann Wadephul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, who is on a two-day official visit to Mauritania leading a high-level delegation.

The discussions focused on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and explored opportunities to expand cooperation across a range of sectors in the mutual interest of both countries. The two ministers also exchanged views on several regional and international issues of common interest.

Following the talks, the two ministers co-chaired an expanded working session bringing together members of the Mauritanian and German delegations. The meeting reviewed cooperation in the economic, social, investment, and development fields and examined opportunities to broaden the partnership between the two countries in priority sectors.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to giving fresh momentum to Mauritanian-German relations by enhancing political dialogue, expanding economic and development cooperation, and translating existing agreements into concrete projects and programmes that contribute to sustainable development.

The meeting also explored opportunities to establish new partnerships between institutions and economic stakeholders in both countries by encouraging investment and the exchange of expertise, in line with national development priorities and the shared interests of the two nations.

The visit by the German delegation, which includes representatives from both the public and private sectors, marks an important milestone in relations between Mauritania and Germany and reflects the two countries’ shared determination to strengthen their partnership and further consolidate the bonds of friendship and cooperation for the benefit of their two friendly peoples.
